Silver Plate and Pewter Tankards
This lot comprises three tankards, one in silver plate by Mappin and Webb, and two in pewter. The silver plate tankard is engraved with the crest of the 2nd Battalion, Coldstream Guards, and is further inscribed “A. Fordham”. The pewter tankards also bear the name “A. Fordham” and details relating to the Sergeant’s Mess Small Arms School, Hythe, and the C.S.M.I. Shooting Club, dated 1941. These tankards represent a fascinating collection of military memorabilia, likely awarded to a Sergeant named A. Fordham for shooting prowess.
Condition and Collectability
The tankards exhibit signs of age and use, with some surface scratches and wear to the silver plate and pewter. However, this adds to their character and authenticity. The engraving remains clear and legible. These tankards would be of interest to collectors of military memorabilia, particularly those focused on the Coldstream Guards or items relating to shooting competitions. The inclusion of the maker’s mark (Mappin and Webb) adds to the desirability of the silver plate tankard.
